L2: Trauma-Sensitive Skilled Practitioner

Trauma-sensitive research skills are becoming more important as researchers encounter complex and emotional situations. This training provides practical tools to manage these challenges confidently and create safe environments for all involved.

What would you do if a research session took an unexpected emotional turn? Join our one-day skills practice based on ‘A Practical Guide to Trauma-Sensitive Research.’ This training equips you with the skills needed for trauma-sensitive research. You’ll gain practical tools, learn from experienced professionals, and develop strategies to handle challenging situations with confidence and care. The training offers a supportive online environment, ensuring you’re prepared to manage stress in research settings.

Join the Pilot: February 2025

This training is a 5-hour skills practice session held on a Saturday from 1 pm to 6 pm GMT. If you’re interested in joining, please register your interest at the end of this page. If you’re interested in joining, follow these three steps:

  1. Register your interest below.
  2. Attend a short 20-minute video call.
  3. Join the training day.

Skills Practice: Overview

1: Welcome and Introductions
A short introduction to the day’s structure and goals.

2: What is Supervision and Why Does it Matter?
An overview of the role of supervision and its importance for skills practice and peer support.

3: Skill 1: Consent
Practice negotiating consent to interrupt when trauma emerges during a session.

4: Skill 2: Interrupting
Hands-on practice in interrupting when someone begins discussing trauma.

5: Skill 3: Regulating
Practice basic strategies to help someone regulate if they become overwhelmed.

6: Conclusion and Reflections
Wrap up the training with shared reflections and discussion of next steps.

The Fine Print: Format & Fees for the Pilot

All sessions are conducted online via Google Meet. The fees for the pilot are reduced and will increase as we continue to offer these trainings:

Standard Fee: £149

For the Pilot: £99

If you are currently out of work or on a lower income, please let us know. We have a few pro-bono and pay-what-you-can spaces available for those who cannot afford the full fee.
